10.3.7 Suction Liner Adjustment
General Adjustment Instructions:
To adjust the suction liner, the nuts (920.02, 920.03/05 and 920.04) must be loosened and the pushers will need to be
turned to push the liner forward. When adjusting, alternate from bolt to bolt, starting with the bolts below the piping.
With the pump operating, adjust the liner forward until the liner nearly comes in contact with the impeller (See Regular
Adjustment Schedule below). If necessary, the studs and nuts (902.02, 920.02 and 920.03/05) may be used to pull the
liner back. Once the adjustment is made, the nuts (920.02, 920.03/05 and 920.04) must be retightened to lock the liner
in place and seal.
The overall adjustment limits for each specific kit can vary. Local liner wear may require the liner to be replaced before
the limit has been reached.
Warnings and Safe Operating Guidelines
Damage to Impeller and Liner will occur if pump operates with liner contacting the impeller.
Adjust pusher bolts with hand tools only. This will help insure only small adjustments are made to the pusher bolts.
Do not use Impact wrench to adjust push bolts. See above, push bolts should only be turned a fixed/measured amount.
Listen for sounds indicating rubbing when tightening push bolts.
Monitor motor amps and note if power consumption (motor current draw) spikes when tightening push bolts. This can
indicate rubbing between impeller and liner.
If rubbing occurs, immediately stop forward adjustment and back off push bolts.
CAUTION
Nose gap should initially be set per maintenance manual by adjusting the bearing assembly forward. Liner
adjustment should only be used to adjust for wear after pump is in operation.
Regular Adjustment Schedule (Recommended):
Due to the difficulty in determining when the liner contacts the impeller and the variability of wear rates, it may be
necessary to develop a specific schedule for adjusting the liner a fixed amount based on operating experience:
Loosen nuts on installation studs.
While holding pusher bolts in place, loosen nuts on pusher bolts.
Tighten pusher bolts a fixed amount in a cross torque pattern, and retighten nuts to 100-300 ft-lbs (135-405 N-m) to
lock the pusher bolts in place and seal. This will set the adjustment distance. Note, it may be necessary to do this step
in multiple passes (ex. 1/4 turn at a time).
Retighten nuts and jam nuts on installation studs to 100-300 ft-lbs (135-405 N-m) to lock in place and seal.
CAUTION
Listen for sounds such as rubbing when tightening push bolts! If a spike in power consumption (motor current
draw) occurs when tightening push bolts, this can indicate impeller rubbing against liner.
During operation, monitor suction liner condition for wear. Typical wear is uneven and localized wear-out is
possible before complete wear-out occurs. Prolonged operation of pump after liner wear-out can lead to suction
plate damage.
