Ports Setup
3.2.3.1
COM Setup
Connect a serial communication cable between the PC’s RS232C (COM) port and the
RCI5000 serial port.
In COM connection the communication between PC and RCI5000 is in ASCII format via
a standard RS232C interface. The baud rate value is between 600 to 9600 baud, where the
default is 9600. To configure it, enter to Setup menu, scroll to Ports Setup and enter to
COM Setup, then go to Set COM Baud Rate. RCI5000 will display the current baud rate
and by scrolling up/down and CONF keys user can change the baud rate.
The RCI5000 is equipped with several protocols through the COM port. To select the
protocol enter to Setup menu, scroll to Ports Setup and enter to COM Setup, then go to Set
COM Protocol. RCI5000 will display the current protocol and by scrolling up/down and
CONF keys user can change the protocol.
KP Systems supplies the appropriate protocol, according to the application (see
Appendix B
).
It is also possible to turn off or on the port regardless if PC is connected or not. If the port
is off, then system is in local mode. By default system is wake-up with COM port on.
Notes:
-
COM port support automatic/manual remote/local mode (see Section 3.10 for more details).
-
COM protocol support ADEMCO685, Meganet and RAN-MAN protocols, and will be expanded
in the future.
-
COM port and USB port cannot have the same protocol.
3.2.3.2
USB Setup
Connect a USB cable between the PC’s USB port and the RCI5000 USB port.
In USB connection the communication between PC and RCI5000 is in ASCII format via a
standard USB ver1.1 interface. The baud rate value is approximately 800Kbps.
To activate the USB port, a USB driver has to be installed in the PC connected to the RCI.
When connecting the USB cable between RCI5000 and PC for the first time, the PC
detects new hardware and starts the driver installation.
To select the protocol which will outputted on the USB port enter to Setup menu, scroll to
Ports Setup and enter to USB Setup, then go to Set USB Protocol. RCI5000 will display
the current protocol and by scrolling up/down and CONF keys user can change the
protocol.
KP provides the appropriate protocol, according to the application (see
Appendix B
).
