when the parking lever is not released,
you need to check to see if the parking
lever is fully released before driving.
When the parking lever has been lifted
and when the ignition switch has been
turned on, the parking brake indicator
lamp will come on.
To release the parking brake lever, pull
it upward a little, press and hold its
lock button and push down.
○
To avoid your car moving by
accident, you need to pull upward
the parking brake into place each
time you fully stop your car.
○
Care shall be taken to press
downward the parking brake lever
into place when releasing it.
Failure to press downward the
parking brake lever into place will
cause
an
over-heated
brake
system,
thus
reducing
and
damaging its braking function. In
addition, it may result in an early
wear of the rear wheel brake
friction plate.
Leaving
your
car
unattended
when the engine is still running
If you have to leave your car with the
engine running, make sure that the
parking brake lever has been pulled
upward into place before leaving your
car. For the models with manual
transmission, you also need to shift to
Neutral.
It may be very hazardous leaving
your car with the engine running.
If you do not shift to Neutral, your
car may move suddenly even
when the parking brake lever has
been fully lifted. In addition,
leaving your car with the engine
running will cause the engine to
get overheated. That may cause a
fire or injuries. Make sure that the
engine is stopped before leaving
your car.
Engine braking
When driving on a long downslope, you
can shift to a lower gear to make full
use of the engine braking. For the
models with manual transmission, you
need to down-shift in sequence.
