The
PINGER
mode is activated by sending the PINGER ON command. The RT8x1
becomes a free running transmitter and can be used as a marker or bottom finding pinger.
The pinger mode is stopped by sending the PINGER OFF command.

ENABLE / DISABLE acoustic commands are available to monitor the two individual
transponder channels CIF and IIF.
A transponder (if enabled) can reply to two interrogation frequencies:
•
The CIF frequency (Common Interrogation Frequency) common to all transponders of
the network to which a transponder responds with its IRF (Individual Reply
Frequency).
•
The IIF frequency (Individual Interrogation Frequency), specific to each transponder,
to which a transponder responds with a CRF (Common Reply Frequency). For
POSIDONIA applications, it is mandatory that the CRF is a M-FSK code, generally
code 22, for much more accurate positioning compared to a tonal frequency.
A field of transponders (application: long base positioning) is characterized by its CIF; all
transponders in the same field must have the same CIF.
A transponder is characterized by its own IIF; each transponder in the same field must
have a different IIF. Generally, CIF = 9 kHz is selected. Often IIF = IRF is set.
