3. Remove the the drain plug from the
cylinder block (Fig. 23). Make sure
that the drain points DO NOT become
blocked during draining.

4. If the old coolant is very dirty, flush
out the system with clean water.
5. Replace the plugs and reconnect the
hose if removed. Refill the radiator
with clean rain water, if available, with
a minimum of 33 per cent anti-freeze
solution.
6. Run the engine for approximately five
minutes to remove all air from the
system. Check the coolant level and
add coolant if needed. Check the hos-
es, radiator, pump and heat exchanger
for leaks.
NOTE
It is advisable to use ITMCo. advised
anti-freeze, it contains inhibitors to pro-
tect your engine.
Frost precautions (Cold climate)
Anti-freeze solutions must be added to
the cooling system water. Use ITMCO. ad-
vised Anti-freeze, available from your IT-
MCO. local Dealer, who will advise you of
the correct proportions of anti-freeze mix-
ture to suit your climatic conditions. The
dry ice point in the following Table 4-4, can
be regarded as the safe limit temperature
for a given concentration of anti-freeze/
water solution. See ‘Capacities’ page 89
for the capacity of your cooling system.
DO NOT use more than 50 per cent
anti-freeze solution in the cooling system
unless the ambient air temperature will be
less than -35°C. More than 50 per cent
decreases heat transfer and will cause the
engine surface temperature to be more
than normal.
