Chapter 13.
Data Migration in zSeries
environments
This chapter describes several methods for migrating data from existing disk storage servers
onto the DS6000 disk storage server. This includes migrating data from the ESS 2105 as well
as from other disk storage servers to the new DS6000 disk storage server. The focus is on
z/OS environments. The following topics are covered from a planning standpoint:
Data migration objectives in z/OS environments
Data migration based on physical migration
Data migration based on logical migration
Combination of physical and logical data migration
Large volume support
z/VM and VSE/ESA data migration
This chapter does not provide a detailed step-by-step migration process description, which
would fill another book. There is a more detailed outline for a system-managed storage
environment.
