Replacement of Drive Assembly Top Cover

1. Perform the replacement procedure in the reverse order.

2. Return to the procedure that sent you here.

Removal and Replacement Procedure—Cooling Pack

Note:  When you are removing the cooling pack to access parts inside the drive, you may want to

complete your testing prior to replacement of the cooling pack, in case the FRU you replaced did
not fix the problem. You can run the drive for a short period of time without the cooling pack to
verify, for testing purposes, that the FRU you just replaced, was the failing FRU. Long term
running without the cooling pack may damage the machine or shorten component life.

1. “Prepare the Tape Device for Service” on page PROC-5 and then return here.

2. Perform removal of the “Library Chassis Covers” on page APPENDD-4 for library machines, or

“Decorative Cover—Drive-Only Models” on page APPENDD-6 for drive-only machines.

3. Perform removal of the “Drive Pack, Library Models” on page APPENDD-7 for library machines, or

“Drive Pack, Drive-Only Models” on page APPENDD-8 for drive-only machines.

4. Perform removal of the “FID B2: Cooling Pack” as follows:

a. Perform removal of the “Drive Assembly Front Cover” on page APPENDD-10.

b. Perform removal of the “Drive Assembly Top Cover” on page APPENDD-10.

c. Remove one screw in the rear of the drive pack (not shown) that holds the cooling pack to the

drive assembly. The other side of the cooling pack is held in place by a holding stud.

d. Squeeze the holding springs and disconnect the small flat cable (RS-422) from the Mother board.

e. Disconnect the large flat cable (internal SCSI cable) from the Drive logic card.

f. Remove the cooling pack from the drive pack.

Replacement of the Cooling Pack

Note:  Be careful to route the SCSI cable so that it does not contact the cooling fan blades.

1. Perform the removal procedure in the reverse order.

2. Perform “End of Call” on page PROC-12.

3. The cooling pack (FID B2) is not a FRU. The drive cooling fan (FID BE) and the internal SCSI

connector (FID CB) are FRUs. If one of these two FRUs is replaced, use the FID and TAC code for
the FRU that is replaced.

4. Return to the procedure that sent you here.
