Set Error Match Trap (To Get a Dump)
RS/6000 Note: The AIX Tape and Medium Changer Device Driver provides an automatic dump facility.
It automatically reads a dump from the 3570 when it is available and stores the dump in a directory on the
RS/6000 system. See the Problem Determination chapter in the
IBM SCSI Tape Drive, Medium Changer,
and Library Device Drivers Installation and User's Guide GC35-0154 for more information.
The dump icon ! appears when the dump is available and remains on the screen to indicate that trace
data is stored in the device. When the trap is hit, an ATTENTION DRIVE FSC Trap Taken message is
displayed on the operator panel. If a FID1 E5 occurs, that may overlay the ATTENTION DRIVE message,
but the dump icon will still he displayed, and the ATTENTION DRIVE message will be underneath.
Attention:
Normal error match traps are volatile and are lost if you reset the drive, switch off power to the
device or microcode recovery occurs (via Check-1, FMR, etc.).
Saved error match traps cannot be lost by
a drive reset, power OFF, or microcode recovery, and require a special procedure for removal. Please
see procedure “Remove Error Match Trap” on page PROC-45 for details.
To set an error match trap:
1. Press the Change Mode push-button to place the drive in CE mode.
2. Select the drive number.
3. Select PROCEED.
4. Select UTILITIES from the CE OPTIONS Menu.
5. Select UCODE TRAP from the CE UTILITIES Menu.
After the CE Microcode Trap menu is displayed, four characters matching the desired error code
(FSC) must be entered. Select each character and modify to the desired value.
6. With the CE UCODE TRAP Menu still selected there will be 4 options presented:
a. ADD FSC TRAP
b. REMOVE FSC TRAP
c. LIST FSC TRAPS
d. SAVED TRAPS
There are two options available to set the trap:
Use option a - Select ADD FSC TRAP which saves the normal trap until the next code reset.
Selection of this option ends the procedure. Skip to step 10 for completion of the procedure.
Or use option d - Select SAVED TRAPS to save the saved trap in the drive until it is manually
removed. A code reset will not eliminate a saved trap from the drive. See procedure “Remove Error
Match Trap” on page PROC-45 for removal of a saved FSC trap.
7. Selection of the SAVED TRAPS option from the CE Microcode Trap menu will cause the CE SAVED
TRAPS Menu to be displayed next.
8. Select ADD SAVED FSC TRAP from the CE SAVED TRAPS Menu to save the trap.
9. Select BACK TO CE MEN to return to the CE Saved Traps Menu.
10. Select CANCEL to return to the previous CE menu. Repeat this step as needed to return to previous
CE menus.
11. Perform “End of Call” on page PROC-12 or return to the procedure that sent you here.
