Converting a Software Location Code to a Physical Drive Location
1. From the configuration listing, determine the software location code for the drive you
want to locate. Look at the -CD- portion of the software location code to determine the
location of the SCSI controller.
AB - CD - EF - G,H
0 = Base Unit, 1 = Expansion Unit
MCA Slot Number
2. Look at the controllers listed in “SCSI Bus Controllers” and determine which SCSI bus
that controller (base unit A or B, expansion unit A or B) is controlling the drive.
3. Look at the -G,H- portion of the software location code to determine the SCSI address.

4. The combination of unit, SCSI bus, and SCSI address identify the physical location
(base, A2). If needed, see the following examples.
Example 1
Physical cabling The SCSI controller in MCA slot 7 of the base unit is attached to
SCSI bus A in the base unit.
Software location code 00–07–00–2,0.
Physical drive location This drive is in drive position A2 (front, upper left) of the base
unit.
Example 2
Physical cabling The SCSI controller in MCA slot 8 of the expansion unit is
attached to input A of bulkhead SCSI module in the expansion
unit.
Software location code 00–18–00–4,0.
Physical drive location This drive is in drive position A4 (front, lower left) in the
expansion unit.
Example 3
Physical cabling The SCSI controller in MCA slot 5 of the base unit is attached to
input B of the bulkhead SCSI module in the expansion unit.
Location code 00–05–00–4,0.
Physical drive location This drive is in drive position B4 (rear, lower right) in the
expansion unit.
