SCSI Interface Card Interconnection

For each SCSI bus used in the expansion unit, a dedicated SCSI controller must be installed.
Install the SCSI controllers in the expansion unit observing the following rules:

•

Install the SCSI controller(s) that will manage the SCSI buses in this unit, to get best
performances from your system.

On the expansion unit, the connection between each SCSI controller and the corresponding
SCSI bus is made through the SCSI Interface Card installed in the unit whose SCSI bus you are
using. Perform the following procedure for each SCSI bus used in each expansion unit.

1. Connect the D-Shell connector of the SCSI cable to the appropriate SCSI-2 Differential

Fast/Wide Adapter controller.

2. Connect the MINI-D connector of the SCSI cable to the SCSI Interface Card right connector

if you are using the first SCSI bus (A), or to the SCSI Interface Card left connector if you are
using the second SCSI bus (B).

3. Ensure that the SCSI-2 Differential Fast/Wide Adapter/A card in slot 8 is connected to the

connector labeled SCSI A on the System Interface card.

SCSI Terminators

Each SCSI bus used in a unit (that means a SCSI bus to which at least one SCSI hard disk or
device is connected), must be closed by means of a SCSI terminator. This terminator must be
installed on the corresponding system interface board, according to the SCSI bus(es) that you
are using, and to the unit(s) that you are connecting.

•

In the base unit:

The first SCSI bus must be closed by means of a SCSI terminator installed in the
‘‘DIFFERENTIAL SCSI A’’ connector of the system interface board.

The second SCSI bus must be closed by means of a SCSI terminator installed in the
‘‘DIFFERENTIAL SCSI B’’ connector of the system interface board.

•

In the expansion unit:

The first SCSI bus must be closed by means of a SCSI terminator installed in the
‘‘DIFFERENTIAL SCSI A’’ connector of the required system interface board.

The second SCSI bus must be closed by means of a SCSI terminator installed in the
‘‘DIFFERENTIAL SCSI B’’ connector of the required system interface board.

Note: The connectors on the system interface board are for terminators only. No external

devices can be attached to these connectors.
