3. Thermostatic Purge Valve
In case of the continuous water flow through the unit not being guaranteed at all times, it is highly
recommended that a thermostatic purge system is installed with the UV unit. This is to protect the UV
unit from overheating. There is a temperature sensor provided that needs to be mounted on the UV
chamber which will be measuring the temperature of the unit. As soon as this sensor detects that the
unit has overheated then it sends a signal to a controller, which then sends a signal to a solenoid
valve to open. The solenoid valve is to be positioned in a T-junction on the outlet side of the UV unit
and when it opens the water flows to drain flushing the UV chamber from the warm water. This takes
place until the temperature of the UV body returns to a pre-set acceptable value. The solenoid valve
closes.
