Frequency Modulation (FM)
A modulated waveform consists of a
carrier waveform
and a
modulating
waveform
. In
FM
, the frequency of the carrier is varied by the amplitude
of the modulating waveform. The function generator will accept
only
an
internal
FM
modulating signal (no external source is available).
For more information on the fundamentals of Frequency Modulation,
refer to chapter 7, “Tutorial”.
To Select FM Modulation
•
The
FM
annunciator turns on when
FM
is enabled.
•
Only one modulation mode can be enabled at a time. When you
enable
FM
, the previous modulation mode is turned off.
•
Front-Panel Operation
: Enable
FM
before
setting up the other
modulation parameters. Press
Shift FM
to output an
FM
waveform
using the present settings for the carrier frequency, modulating
frequency, output amplitude, and offset voltage.
•
Remote Interface Operation
: To ensure proper operation, you should
enable
FM
after
you have set up the other modulation parameters.
