Using Macros
Macros are useful in the following situations:
•
to define an area or multiple areas to scan that you scan often, such as
several samples arranged in the same sample holder. In this situation,
defining a macro once saves the time required to define the scan for each
sample every time you scan. This type of macro is particularly useful in
production testing where the samples are all the same size and shape (or one
of a few sizes and shapes.)
•
to define a range within which the sample's birefringence must fall. This can
be accomplished by setting the Magnitude Min and Max set points in the
defined macro. After the scan is done, you can display the data in the
Pass/Fail format, showing quickly which points failed. This type of macro is
particularly useful in quality-control situations.
•
to easily scan irregular shapes (i.e., shapes that are not rectangular or
circular.) You can accomplish this by using one of the shape tools or the
Auto
Detect Aperture
button in the Edit Macro dialog box. The
Auto Detect
Aperture
feature detects the outer edge of any aperture, but does not detect
any blocked points within the aperture.
