Overview of the Graphical User Interface 

Exicor GEN5 User Manual

Birefringence Plot Area 

The birefringence plot area shows the currently active measurement data or 
currently open data file.  
Using a mouse, you can select a grid point to display the measured data in the 
Interactive Scan panel.  If you select more than one grid point (by dragging the 
mouse), you can either outline an area for a new scan or you can zoom in on the 

area with the 

 button.  The coordinates of the selected area are displayed in the 

Automatic Scan panel. 
 

The 

 button allows you to zoom in on a grid point or points.  The 

 button 

allows you to zoom in on the data from a completed scan.  Click the 

 

button to 

show the entire scannable area.  Alternatively the mouse wheel can be used for 
zooming in and out.   
By double-clicking on a grid point, you command the system to move to that location 
and take a measurement (the same as clicking once and then clicking the Move & 
Sample button).  A cross-hair which represents the current stage position is 
displayed. 
The default grid spacing is set at 50mm.  If necessary, you can change the grid 
spacing and grid units. See “Changing the Grid Spacing” and “Changing the Stage 
Distance Units” on page 39 for more information.   

Other Displays and Controls 

Figure 4.10 shows the real-time signal DC portion of the detector signal.  The DC 
level is important because it represents the light intensity that is reaching the 
detector.  A low DC level means the light is being blocked in some way.  More light 
reaching the detector means more signal strength and less noise in the 
measurement.  See the Troubleshooting chapter for more information.
