Using Macros
Macros are useful in the following situations:
•
to define an area or multiple areas that you scan often, such as several samples
arranged in the same sample holder. In this situation, defining a macro once
saves the time required to define the scan for each sample every time you scan.
This type of macro is particularly useful in production testing where the samples
are all the same size and shape.
•
to easily scan irregular shapes (i.e., shapes that are not rectangular or circular)
High Speed mode is not available in Macro mode.
Creating a Macro
To begin creating a macro, select Macro Create Macro from the Exicor menu
bar. This opens the Edit Macro dialog box, as shown in Figure 4.19.

To create a macro, follow these steps:
1. Go to the Automatic Scan panel and enter the desired grid spacing.
2. Select the type of shape to be created on the Macro Editor panel.
3. Use the mouse to select the first area to add to the macro and click
Add/Change . To define a polygon, first click on the point where the first
vertex should be placed. Then click to place the remaining vertices (the line
expands following the mouse pointer). Then click once more on the first
vertex to close the polygon.
