THE HASSELBLAD MANUAL
with negative color fi lms that have a rather large exposure latitude. Make your exposure read-
ings more carefully so the images are exposed to an accuracy that is within ½
f
stop. To avoid
overexposed digital images, expose them more like transparencies, that is exposing for the
lighted, rather than the shaded areas. See details in Chapter 15.
In digital imaging you must try to obtain the best possible exposure in the camera in
every image. Over exposure must be avoided. Some photographers seem to be under the
impression that exposures in raw are not as critical because they can be corrected in the
computer. That is incorrect. Even in raw, no computer manipulation can bring back details in
the highlights or in the shadow areas if they do not exist on the original.
VIEWING IMAGES
The Viewing screen on the digital sensor unit is activated by pressing the View Mode but-
ton. With the navigating control, you can select the image that you want to preview. With
the selected image on the screen, pressing the View Mode button repeatedly goes through
the various viewing modes (Figure 5-15) such as Standard, which shows the image and a few
important data such as ISO, White Balance Setting, and Media used. Full Screen shows the
image on the full screen without any data. Histogram Overlay shows the histogram over part
of the image. Full Details shows the histogram and all the data such as time and date and the
camera and lens settings, and Battery Saver turns off the screen to save power still allowing
you to use the menu and take pictures. In the Full Screen view, the Approval button has no
effect.
