TDT
Time and Date Table. This DVB-SI table contains frequently updated information that relates
to the present time and date.
telecine
A device which scans film frames for conversion to video images. In high quality telecine
operations this is done frame-by-frame, with color and exposure correction to ensure high
quality. In lower quality operations this is done in real-time without corrections. The resulting
video images, due to frame rate conversion, may employ a “3:2” cadence of repeated frames.
See
teletext
An electronic communications system in which printed information is broadcast by television
signal to sets equipped with decoders.
Temporal activity
The amount of change in the video source from one frame to the next.
The temporal activity value is the average of the temporal activity for all frames during the
sampling period. In IRIS, the range for temporal activity is from 0 to 100. Sports sequences
with lot of motion will have a high temporal activity value. For a still frame, the temporal
activity value is zero, regardless of the image.
terminal block
A connector used to attach a wire or set of wires.
terminal system remultiplexer
The
that performs the final level of multiplexing. In system architecture, this
component is just before the uplink modulator or other channel encoder. This designation is
important because this component has tasks that are specific to its placement in the
topology.
TFTP
Trivial File Transfer Protocol. A simple form of the file transfer protocol (FTP). TFTP uses the
user datagram protocol (
). It is often used by servers to boot diskless workstations,
X-terminals, and routers.
TIA
Telecommunications Industry Association.
TIA-232
A
TIA

printers to a

. TIA-232 supports the 25-pin D-type connector (DB-25) and a 9-pin D-type
connector (DB-9).
