Description of GOTIS
The Principle
GOTIS monitors the torques (1) at the nose wheel whenever the
aircraft is in motion.
Its function corresponds to that of the torque pin on a towbar.
Two load cells integrated into the swivel arms (2) of the
transportation system constantly measure the torque steer forces
and transmit the readings to a micro-controller.
This micro-controller compares the current values against the stored
limit values given by the aircraft manufacturer.
Function
The system starts up when the AST ignition is switched on. It then
carries out a lamp test and checks all the relevant signals. In the
event that this system check detects a fault, the fault is indicated as a
message on the TDM.
If an aircraft is then picked up, the system again checks that all the
relevant signals are correct. If no faults are present, the system
activates the green “Aircraft / GOTIS status” light in the CDM, thus
signalling that it is ready for operation. It is only from this moment that
the torque on aircraft with overtorque requirements will be monitored.
All the while that the torque steer forces are not in the critical range,
the green “Aircraft / GOTIS status” lamp signals to the driver than the
system is operating correctly. Once the aircraft is set down again, the
aircraft monitoring process ends.
