Troubleshooting Communications Problems
Ethernet (LAN) Communication Problems
•
IP Address not set correctly in the SC-ADT.
•
Cables not installed.
•
Default Route not set when router exists.
1. Connect a VT100-compatible terminal to the CTRL port to check the IP Address and mask in
the SC-ADT and ensure the values is correct.
2. Perform ping to determine whether the SC-ADT is communicating on the network.
Modem Communication Problems
•
IP Address not set correctly in SC-ADT.
•
External modem not cabled or configured properly for Switched Network operation.
•
External modem not connected to async Port1 or Port2.
1. At the command prompt, type
show int
to check that the Admin state is
UP
on all inter-
faces you intend to use, and that the modem IP address is properly configured.
2. Check that the
conf modem use
command is properly set for internal or external modem.
3. For the SC V.F28.8/33.6 modem, check that the proper cable is connected to the switched
network at the modem’s rear panel lower RJ45 connector.
4. For the SC V.34 Dual modem, check that for the intended modem, A or B, the option jumper
(X3 or X4, respectively) is set for switched network operation. Check that the correct cable is
connected to the switched network at the modem A or modem B rear panel RJ45 connector.
5. Check that the proper cable/adapter is in use at the external modem’s rear panel DB25
connector to attached the modem to async Port1 or Port2.
WEB Communication Problems
•
Browser not configured for accessing SC-ADT.
•
Eight web management sessions already in progress.
1. At your browser, ensure that cookies are enabled.
2. Ensure that your user name and password have been entered correctly.
3. Check that SC-ADT has been configured with HTTP enabled.
