Installation and Operation Manual

Modem Configuration

Any SC-ADT can be configured to use one or two external GDC V.34 modems. When equipped
with internal modems, the SC-ADT can use either the internal or external modems in any
combination. Cabling and configuration are different depending on the type of modem in use. For
online help in configuring external or internal modems, type:

configure modem ?

Figure 3-2

 Modem Help Displays

Modem Configuration Procedure

1. Check that the internal and/or external modems are properly connected to the PSTN. If

applicable, check that any external modems are properly connected to Port1 and/or Port 2.
Refer to Chapter 2 unde

Modem Connections

 as needed.

2. Configure each modem interface (required for dial-in networking) by typing:

configure interfaces ip-address modem

[0 or 1]

[###.###.###.###]

[###.###.###.###]

For example:

configure interfaces ip-address modem0 172.16.5.6 255.255.0.0

configure interfaces ip-address modem1 172.16.5.7 255.255.0.0

3. Enter a description for each modem interface by typing:

configure interfaces description modem

[0 or 1]

[your_description]

For example:

configure interfaces description modem0

“NOC Int Modem”

configure interfaces description modem1

“NOC Ext Modem”

4. Enable the modem interfaces by typing:

configure interfaces enable modem0

configure interfaces enable modem1

Note

If your SC-ADT device is not equipped with integral modems and is not attached to compatible external
modems, the modem interfaces will remain disabled.
