Chapter 7 Measuring Features and Defects

Profile Measurement
1.
Place the first and second cursors on a flat surface on opposite sides of the area of
interest. Profile cursors have a square box around the cursor to indicate they are
creating a reference plane.
2.
The XLG3 system will automatically draw a perpendicular line between the first and
second cursor, across the surface of the target. The green dot along the line and
dimension indicates the highest or lowest point from the reference surface. The profile
slice is made perpendicular to the reference surface.
3.
Once you have placed both reference cursors, press and hold the ENTER button to
display the Profile View.
4.
In Profile View, you may reposition all cursors and the measurement point by pressing
ENTER to toggle between cursors, then using the joystick to reposition them.
Note: Small bumps seen in the profile view may be caused by noise. If the bumps are
significant, relative to the feature being measured, the tip was too far from the surface.
Another scan should be performed from a closer distance.
