To protect the viewport glasses from metallisation,
shutter blades are mounted inside the chamber.
The shutter blades are operated by pneumatic ac-
tuators. They are closed throughout the build proc-
ess except when a picture is taken.

xQam is a sensor system used for automatic cali-
bration of the beam. It detects x-ray generated
when the beam hits a target. The radiation levels
will differ as the beam moves across different
materials.
