Resuming initialization
To resume initialization:
■
Click the
RESUME
link located just to the right and below the progress bar.
The initialization continue from the point where it was paused.
Adding hot spare drives
Hot-swappable spare disk drives are supported. In the event of a drive failure,
the controller uses either a global spare or a dedicated spare to replace a failed
drive that is a member of a fault tolerant array. The process of configuring
redundant arrays includes assigning drives as global spares or as dedicated
spares.
Important
You cannot mix SAS and SATA disk drives
in the same disk array. Also, if you intend
to have a mix of SATA and SAS drives in
the enclosure, each array comprised of
either SATA or SAS drive types must have
a dedicated spare of like type assigned.
Global spares are not assigned to a specific array, and when created they can
be used by any array as the replacement drive as long as the size is equal to, or
greater than the drive being replaced and the types are the same.
A dedicated spare is assigned to a specific array, and it can only be used by that
array. It should be the same size or greater than the drives that comprise the
array, and it must be the same type (for example, all SAS or all SATA).
Assigning a global spare
To assign a global spare:
1
From the
Main
window, within the enclosure front view, click the icon of
an
Available
drive that you want to make a global hot spare. The
DRIVE
window opens.
Important
There must be at least one drive online
and available to be assigned as a hot
spare, and a configuration must exists (at
least one array defined). You must use the
same drive type as used to define the
array.
