If the ground is uneven, sandy or muddy,
this may mean that the vehicle cannot be
parked safely and may be damaged.

Switching on
1. When the vehicle is stationary, pull and

lamp in the button lights up yellow.
The indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster lights up red when the electric
parking brake is switched on.

Switching off
1. Switch on the ignition.
2. Depress the brake pedal and press the

button.
The indicator lamp in the
button and the
red indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster go out.
Automatic switch-off of the electric
parking brake when driving off
The electric parking brake is released auto-
matically when driving
off
if
one
of the fol-
lowing situations occurs when the driver
door is closed

Manual gearbox:
the clutch is fully de-
pressed before pulling away.
—
Automatic transmission:
a gear selector
position is engaged or changed.
Pulling away on steep inclines or with
increased vehicle loads
Manual gearbox:
you can prevent the elec-
tric parking brake from switching
off
auto-
matically by pulling the
→
button
upwards and holding it while moving
off.
If higher engine power is required to move
off,
the electric parking brake will be deacti-
vated only when you release the
button.
This makes pulling away with a heavy trail-
er load easier.
Automatic transmission:
the electric parking
brake can make it easier to pull away on
steep inclines, so it should be applied man-
ually by pressing the
button before pull-
ing away. Apply the accelerator gradually
when pulling away.
Automatic switch-on of the electric
parking brake if the driver does not
leave the vehicle correctly
