GLOSSARY
CCD: Computer Controlled Dwell.
CCNT: Code count.
CCRM: Constant Control Relay Module is a relay module that provides on-off control of various EEC
components.
CCS: Coast Clutch Solenoid.
CCSP: Carbon Canister Storage/Purging.
CFC: Chlorofluorocarbon.
CFC Monitoring: Used to determine if air conditioning system is leaking CFCs into the atmosphere.
Chassis Ground: Battery negative and chassis parts attached to battery negative.
CID: Cylinder Identification signal from the CMP sensor that provides crankshaft or camshaft position
information for fuel injection synchronization.
Circuit: A complete electrical path or channel, usually includes the source of electrical energy. May
also be used with fluids, air or liquids.
CKP: Crankshaft Position sensor indicates crankshaft position.
Closed Loop Fuel Control: Controls engine operation when the engine operates in closed loop fuel
control (most normal driving).
Clutch: A mechanical device which uses mechanical, magnetic or friction type connections to facilitate
engaging or disengaging of two shafts or rotating members.
CMP: Camshaft Position sensor indicates camshaft position.
CMS: Catalyst Monitor Sensor. HO2S located after catalysts to measure oxygen storage of catalysts.
DPFE: Delta Pressure Feedback EGR sensor monitors differential EGR pressure across a remote
orifice to control EGR flow.
Drive Cycle: A driving pattern used to initiate a Monitor Test.
DRL: Daytime Running Lamps.
DSM: Driver’s Seat Module.
DSR: Diagnostic Subroutine, a section of Quick Test in the PC/ED.
DTC: Diagnostic Trouble Code is an alpha/numeric identifier for a fault condition identified by the
On-Board Diagnostic System.
DTM: Diagnostic Test Mode indicates level of scan tool access and capability in an On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD) system. This may include different functional states to observe signals, a base level
to read Diagnostic Trouble Codes, a monitor level which includes information on signal levels,
bi-directional control with On/Off board aids, and the ability to interface with remote diagnosis
equipment.
DTVS: Dual-Temperature Vacuum Switch.
