A main feature of the SIHIdry
is the electronic synchronization of the drive motors. The permanent
magnet synchronous motors (G) are controlled by variable speed drive (STE12/30) with feedback from
shaft mounted position resolvers (H). The frequency converters and microprocessors are integral with the
pump. In addition to the electronic synchronization, the shafts are fitted with a non-lubricated emergency
gear (I). In normal operation the gears run out of contact and wear free, but in the event of a power or
electronic failure, they bring the spindles safely to a standstill.
The design of the gears ensures that the
contact free running of the spindles does not
solely rely on the electronic synchronization.
Consequently no precautions are necessary
when stopping the pump and a special safety
analysis for fault free operation of the hardware
and software is not needed. The SIHIdry
has
been developed for use in a hazardous area.
The electrical system has been designed for
easy connection to the power supply.
The unit requires only 460V 3phase
supply and 24V DC supply. The electronics and
connection terminals are housed in a purged
enclosure. As with all electrical equipment and
motors the supply should be protected by a hand
operated isolator and main fuses, normally
outside of the hazardous area, in accordance
with appropriate standards. Motor overload
protection is not required with the frequency
converter drive control. For explosion proof
installations an additional relay is required to
automatically switch of the power in case of a
failure. The facility for analogue / digital interface
to an external control system such as a DCS is
provided by connections in the terminal strips.
