A decay product of uranium and thorium, it occurs in virtually all rock,

soil, and water in low concentrations. 20 % of the 226Ra that is inges-

ted via food and water is deposited into the bone. Although this makes

the nuclide dangerous itself, it presents its greatest risk when it decays

into 222Ra, which is an odorless, tasteless, radioactive gas that can be

inhaled into the lungs.
