S.CON1M/MA System
27
5. Your S.CON1M/MA device is now manageable by any Network Manager
running on the network.
Installing MIB file on Management Station
Before you can begin to manage the media converter from a management station
using SNMP, you need to load and compile the MIB file(s), included with the
management module, onto the management station. In order to accomplish this
you need to perform two steps : :
•
Copy the MIB file, supplied with the module, to the default directory that
contains all other MIB files (varies between management software
packages).
•
In your management application, add the new MIBs to the already existing
list and recompile the MIBs.
Your management station is now ready to monitor and control the S.CON1M/MA
from any management station on the network.
Managing the S.CON1M/MA
The recommended method for managing your S.CON1M/MA is through a Telnet
terminal program. When you open a Telnet session directed to the S.CON1M/MA
IP address, you will be prompted to enter a user name and password. These
values can be set at the startup configuration setup, through the serial connection
only (after power up). The default factory values for these parameters are: User
name: ‘moose’, Password: ‘1234’.
You can also monitor your S.CON1M/MA using SNMP with a management station.
This station must have a management application and it should be connected to
the device (via the network).
After the device and management station are connected and running you will be
able to manage your system through the SNMP management application.
Use the management application to view the system’s general information (figure 4)
In order to monitor the system’s status you should open the following branch of the
tree:
enterprises/fibrolan/fibrolanSNMP/fibrolanMaDevice/flConvScon1m-ma
Through the various parameters given within the S.CON1M/MA MIB, you can view
the system status as well as the remote MA CPE basic status (if such is
connected).
The following section (
‘SNMP Management’
) describes the available MIB tables for
SNMP management.
The
‘Terminal
(CLI)
Management
’ section describes the general management
options available, through either the serial connection or a Telnet connection. The
display in both is almost identical and the available functionality is exactly the
same
Note: some configuration changes require a few seconds to take effect.
