Reverse return system
In the above drawing, there is no
“
path of least resistance
”
, water
ow will be adequate in each unit. Reverse return
system maintains equal pressure drop throughout the entire piping system and ensures adequate
ow to all the units.
Non reverse return system - NOT RECOMMENDED
In above drawing, the difference in water pressure will cause differential water flow. More water pressure, more
variations in
ow rate. In the above diagram the farthest unit might have no-
ow or very scarce
ow.
NOTE

This concept can be applied when two or more heaters are used in parallel, the inlet and outlet piping should be
arranged in a way that an equal flow is received from each heater under all demand conditions. With a reverse
return system it is easy to get parallel flow. The unit having its inlet closest to the cold water supply is piped so
that its outlet will be farthest from the hot water supply line.

Pump control such as aquastat or timer and aquastat
must be used in recirculation application or short cycle may
