V holder lever switching mechanism
The V holder lever switching mechanism consists of the
platen switching mechanism and the paper holder switch-
ing mechanism in combination. When the end of the slip or
validation paper is detected by the cut sheet sensor, this
mechanism accurately feeds the last part of the paper.
Paper roll clutch mechanism
The paper roll clutch mechanism is built into the J paper
feed roller shaft set. This mechanism prevents the paper
roll from being fed forward when slip or validation paper is
being fed. This mechanism also makes it possible to easily
stop paper feeding while printing on the paper roll.

Operation of the clutch mechanism when feeding paper
When the J paper feed roller shaft on the J drive gear
rotates, the paper feed clutch spring on the J paper feed
roller shaft causes the J paper feed roller to rotate in the
direction of the

. One end of the paper feed clutch spring
is connected to the paper feed clutch plate, and the other
end is connected to the J paper feed roller. The paper feed
clutch spring normally squeezes the J paper feed roller
shaft. Whenever the J paper feed roller shaft rotates, the
shaft, paper feed clutch plate, and J paper feed roller move
as one unit. Note that the paper is fed forward by the friction
between the J paper feed roller and J holder roller.

Paper holder switching mechanism
The paper holder switching mechanism consists of the
parts shown in Figure 2-25.
The slip paper is inserted into the unit along the document
table by hand until the paper is pushed against the form
stopper. The cut sheet sensor detects the paper, and the
paper holder switching mechanism automatically feeds the
paper to the prescribed position.
The paper holder lever subset is linked to the form stopper
set and the V movable lever, and plays an important role in
the release of the slip paper stopper (moving the form
stopper away from the paper path).
