2-11
When the J insertion lever is rotated by hand in the direction
of
➡
A, the lever closes the cut sheet path C (the state
indicated by dotted lines in Figure 2-30) and opens a paper
path under the J guide for the paper roll. At the same time,
the microswitch turns on. In response to this signal, the
paper feed motor set operates and the J paper feed roller
begins to rotate in the direction of
➡
B. In this state (with the
J insertion lever depressed), if paper roll is inserted in the
direction of
➡
D all the way to the J paper feed roller, feeding
of the paper roll is continued through the friction between
and rotation of the J paper feed roller and J holder roller.
To stop paper feeding, release the J insertion lever. The
tension of the J insertion lever spring returns the lever to its
original position while the microswitch turns off at the same
time, stopping the paper feeding operation.

Cutter mechanism
The cutter on this unit is a manual cutter, and consists of the
parts shown in Figure 2-31.
The cutter cover is normally used to protect the operator
from injury. When cutting the paper roll, the cutter cover
moves in the direction of the
➡
, using the cutter cover shaft
as a fulcrum, and cuts the paper roll. After cutting the
paper, the cutter cover is returned to its original position by
the cutter cover spring.

Clamshell mechanism
The clamshell mechanism consists of the parts shown in
Figure 2-32. This mechanism plays an important role in
improving operability when clearing problems such as
paper jams or when replacing the print head.
●
Opening the clamshell mechanism
1. Remove the ribbon cassette from the printer.
2. If the control portion of the ribbon frame lever is pulled in
the direction of
➡
A, the link between the ribbon frame
lever and carriage guide shaft A is released and the
ribbon frame rises several millimeters in the direction of
➡
B.
3. While holding the ribbon frame lever or both sides of the
ribbon frame, open the ribbon frame in the direction of
➡
C.
