2.4 Cleaning Mechanism
The cleaning mechanism consists of a pump cap unit and a waste ink pads
(maintenance cartridge).
Pump Motor
The pump motor drives the cap unit, pump, head cleaner, and carriage lock. The table
below shows the operation of each mechanism depending on the rotational direction of
the pump motor.

The rotation direction as seen from the top of the unit.

Cap Unit/Carriage Lock
The pump motor moves the cap unit up and down. The cap unit goes up to seal the
print head during cleaning and stand-by. Carriage lock operates in synchronization
with the cap unit. When the carriage unit moves to the home position, carriage lock
moves up together with the cap unit and lock the carriage unit.
