Replacing the Speech Diaphragm or O-Ring

Draw the nose cup out of the groove in the
screw ring.

Unscrew the screw ring with spanner
(R 26 817).

Turn the socket wrench over and carefully
insert it in the holes of the grille, taking care
not to damage the foil on the diaphragm.

Turn the speech diaphragm to release it and
remove it.

Remove the O-ring from the connector with
sealing ring lifter (40 54 983).

Check speech diaphragm and O-ring and replace if necessary.

When assembling the parts:

Press the edge of the nose cup into the groove in the screw ring and
ensure that it engages all around. The edge of the nose cup must fit all
around the full circumference of the screw ring. The center marks on the
facepiece connector and on the nose cup must match.

Replacing the Exhalation Valve Disc

Remove the exhalation valve cover.

Grip under the edge of the valve disc and pull the holding stud out of the
hole.

Clean the valve seat.

Moisten the new valve disc with water and press it into the hole until it
engages. The valve disc must make even contact all around.

Refit the exhalation valve cover so that it clicks into place.

Replacing the Inhalation Valve Disc

Pull the inhalation valve out by its tab.

Remove the old valve disc and fit new disc.

Press the inhalation valve into the mask connector until it makes even
contact all around. The valve disc must not be pinched. The disc must
face inwards, and the stem outwards.

Maintenance Intervals

Testing / Visual Inspection

The mask must regularly be serviced (see “Maintenance Intervals”).

Test Equipment and Test Accessories

— Test Kit (40 58 234) or Testor 2100 (R 53 400)
— Adapter (R 53 344)
— Exhalation valve plug (R 53 349), or other commercially available test

equipment.

Visual Inspection of the Speech Diaphragm

The speech diaphragm must not show any damages, e.g. deformations,
holes, oxidations. Otherwise it must be replaced.
Please refer also to the table titled “Maintenance Intervals” on page 5. To
replace the speech diaphragm, see “Replacing the Speech Diaphragm or
O-Ring” on page 5.

Visual Inspection of the Exhalation Valve

Remove the exhalation valve cover from the mask connector, and carefully
inspect the valve disc. Valve disc and seat must be clean and undamaged.
Clean or replace if necessary.

Leak Test

Follow the Instructions for Use of the test equipment.
When using the Testor:

Moisten the face seal with water.

Fit the full face mask to the test head, see “Fitting the Mask” on page 3.

Inflate test head until the sealing surface fits snugly all round.

Seal the mask connector with the adapter.

Generate a negative pressure of 10 mbar.

The full face mask is considered leak-proof when the pressure change after
1 minute does not exceed 1 mbar. If not, proceed to “Testing with Sealed
Exhalation Valve”.

Testing with Sealed Exhalation Valve

Remove the exhalation valve, and press the exhalation valve plug firmly
onto the seat until it engages.

Generate a negative pressure of 10 mbar.

If the pressure change after 1 minute is less than 1 mbar, remove the
exhalation valve plug, insert a new valve disc and repeat the leak test.
If not, proceed to “Underwater Leak Test (Optional)”.

Underwater Leak Test (Optional)

If a proper fit (leak test) cannot be achieved (no sufficient seal) with
standard leak tests, an underwater leak test is necessary to locate the
leak(s).

Generate an excess pressure of approx. 10 mbar.

Immerse the test head with fitted full face mask in water and rotate slowly.
Escaping air bubbles indicate the source of the leak(s).

Seal leak(s).

Remove the exhalation valve plug.

Repeat the leak test.

After Testing

Unscrew the adapter.

Remove the mask from the test head and dry if necessary.

Refit the exhalation valve cover so that it clicks into place.
