For Your Safety

These Instructions for Use (this Manual) for the CDR 4500 full face mask
("CDR 4500" or "the device") are designed to be a guideline to the proper
use of the CDR 4500. This Manual is not a substitute for thorough and
appropriate training in the use of the CDR 4500.
This Manual could not possibly contain all the information needed to safely
use the CDR 4500. However, it will help you understand the performance
characteristics and maintenance requirements of the CDR 4500, which,
when combined with appropriate hands-on training, will enable you to
properly use the device.
This Manual also provides you with necessary manufacturer’s guidelines
for maintenance intervals and service of the device (see, for example,
“Maintenance Intervals” on page 5). These guidelines must be strictly
followed to avoid being injured or killed.  For this reason (and many others),
it is extremely important that you read and understand every aspect of this
Manual, in addition to receiving proper training, before attempting to use
the device. Should you not thoroughly understand any aspect of the
Manual, call Dräger at 800-922-5518.
The CDR 4500 may only be used for the purposes specified in these
Instructions for Use (see “Description/Intended Use” on page 2).
The CDR 4500 must never be used under water.

Liability for Proper Function or Damage

Liability for the proper function of the full face mask is irrevocably transferred
to the owner or operator to the extent that the full face mask has been
improperly serviced or repaired by personnel not employed or authorized by
Dräger Safety or if it has been used in a manner not conforming to its
intended use. Dräger Safety cannot be held responsible for damage caused
by non-compliance with the recommendations given above. The warranty and
liability provisions of the terms of sale and delivery of Dräger Safety are
likewise not modified by the recommendations given above.

Biological Radiological Nuclear) approved respirator that protects the face
and the eyes against NIOSH-listed CBRN agents.

chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) atmospheres not
immediately dangerous to life or health.
Only use with CBRN-approved respiratory canisters with standard
Rd40 x1/7 thread.

What's What

Use

Quantitative Fit Test

Dräger recommends that a Quantitative Fit Test be performed before use
of this negative pressure respirator in CBRN atmospheres. The
Quantitative Fit Test is to be conducted in accordance with the
requirements outlined in the OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard 29
Code of Federal Register, Part 1910.134. A fit factor of 2000 or greater is
required. If the fit factor of 2000 is not achieved, other appropriate
respiratory protection must be used.

Size selection

The user can select between three mask sizes.
Only use a respirator which fits to your facial dimensions!
To ensure that the correct respirator size is selected, a Quantitative Fit Test
(as noted above) must be performed (regardless of facial dimensions and
respirator sizing charts).

WARNING!
Exposure of the user to very high or low temperatures
could cause serious injury and should be avoided.

DANGER!
This respirator only protects against NIOSH listed
CBRN agents.
It does not protect against all possible warfare agents.
