Duration of Use

The operating period depends on various factors, including the type and
concentration of pollutant and the type of filter (see also the Instructions for
Use of canisters).
The canisters are for single use only!

After Use

Unscrew the respiratory canister.

Remove the mask as follows:
Insert index finger behind the tabs on the
neck straps.
Press the clamping buckles forwards with
thumbs while pulling the full face mask off
your face and back over your head.

Disposal

Used respiratory canisters must be treated as special waste and must be
disposed in accordance with the applicable waste disposal regulations.

Cleaning, Disinfection and Drying

Only use approved cleaning and disinfecting agents!

Cleaning

The mask must be cleaned after every use so that it is clean before it is
used by a different individual or, if individually assigned, as often as
necessary to keep in a sanitary condition.
Respirators that are issued to more than one employee must be cleaned
before being worn by different individuals.

Clean the mask with a cloth and lukewarm water mixed with an all-
purpose detergent, e.g. Airkem 33.

Rinse thoroughly under running water.

Disinfection and Decontamination

The mask must be disinfected and decontaminated after every use to keep
it in a sanitary condition. It is fully in the user’s responsibility to make sure
that the mask is totally free of contaminants after this treatment.

Immerse the mask in a disinfectant bath.

Rinse thoroughly under running water.

For exposure to CBRN agents Dräger does not provide recommendations
for decontamination. Never use a mask again, which is not properly
disinfected and decontaminated. In case of doubts dispose of the mask in
accordance with the local regulations and use a new mask!

Drying

Dry the mask in a drying cabinet or in a clean area. Maximum temperature
140

o

F (60

o

C). Do not expose the mask to direct sunlight.

Storage

Loosen the straps as far as possible.

Wipe lens with anti-static cloth.

Pack the mask in its bag or mask box and store it in a dry, dust-free place
where it is not deformed.

Keep out of direct sunlight and heat.

Storage temperature rated range: 5

o

F to 77

o

F  (-15

o

C to +25

o

C).

Maximum storage temperature temporary: 140

o

F (+60

o

C).

DANGER!
Doff full face mask only outside of hazardous areas,
never inside! Make sure that the wearer is not harmed
by the surface-contaminated mask. Avoid direct contact
to skin and inhalation of hazardous substances.

NOTE
Do not use any organic solvents such as acetone,
alcohol etc. to clean the rubber parts.

DANGER!
Use only approved disinfectants, e.g. Airkem 33.
Excessive disinfectant concentration and too long
disinfection times can damage the mask.

Maintenance

Regular service, maintenance, and pre-use checkouts of your CDR 4500 is
of the utmost importance to ensure safe use of the device. Thus it is
absolutely mandatory that you strictly follow the “Maintenance Intervals” on
page 5, below.
Repair of the CDR 4500 may only be carried out by trained and qualified
service personnel.
We recommend you enter into a service contract with Dräger Safety; that
all repairs on your CDR 4500 be conducted by Dräger Safety; and that
only original Dräger parts be used for maintenance and repairs.

Replacing the Lens

Loosen the two clamping screws.

Pry the lens frame apart with a screwdriver at the connecting points, then
pull off the top and bottom parts.

Remove the gusset if necessary.

Detach the old lens from its rubber frame.

Insert the new lens first in the upper and then in the lower part of the
rubber frame. The center marks on the lens should be aligned with the
seam on the facepiece.

Pull the rubber frame over the edge of the lens on the right and left.

Moisten the outside of the rubber frame and the inside of the lens with
soap solution.

Fit the upper, then the lower lens frame.

Fit the gusset if necessary.

Tighten the clamping screws.

Leak test the mask (see “Testing / Visual Inspection” on page 5).

Replacing the Facepiece Connector

Draw the nose cup out of the groove in the
screw ring.

Pry open the connector clamp using a
screw-driver.

Remove connector clamp, sliding ring and
gusset.

Draw the facepiece connector out of the
mask body.

Insert speech diaphragm, exhalation valve and inhalation valve into the
new mask connector, and fit the connector so that the center marks of the
mask connector and mask body match.

Slide the gusset between connector clamp
and sliding ring; attach it to the lower lens
frame and align it.

Compress the nose on the connector clamp
with pliers (R 53 239) until the facepiece
connector is securely located in the mask
body.

Fit the nose cup.

Leak test the mask (see “Testing / Visual Inspection” on page 5).

Replacing the Valve Discs on the Nose Cup Valves

Pull out the old valve disc towards the inside.

Insert the stud of the new disc into the hole from inside, and pull it
towards the lens until the undercut of the stud is visible. The valve discs
should make even contact with the inside surface.

WARNING!
The CDR 4500 must be regularly inspected and
serviced by qualified service personnel, and the
“Maintenance Intervals” on page 5 must be strictly
followed.
Failure to follow this warning could lead to death or
serious injury.

NOTE
Only use original Dräger parts.
Leak tests must be repeated after any maintenance
work and/or after replacing components.
