WARNING

Device misuse can result in incorrect therapy and injury to the patient.
►
The attending physician should prescribe the therapy settings.
►
Intensive phototherapy (>30 µW/cm

/nm) may not be appropriate for all patients
(for example, premature babies who weigh less than 1000 g (2.2 lb). Follow
attending physician orders and established hospital protocol to determine
appropriate irradiance levels.
►
Routinely monitor patient's condition according to the attending physician orders
or established hospital protocol.
WARNING
Risk of patient injury
Phototherapy radiation can injure the patient if proper precautions are not followed
and patient parameters are not closely monitored.
►
Measure patient bilirubin levels regularly.
►
Monitor the patient’s body temperature during phototherapy. Ambient conditions
such as drafts and sunlight can affect the patient temperature balance.
►
Take steps to monitor and maintain positive water balance in the patient. Water
balance may be disturbed in patients receiving phototherapy.
►
Monitor patient’s skin closely. Blue light can interfere with clinical observation by
masking skin color changes, such as cyanosis.
►
Always use eye shields to protect the patient from phototherapy equipment
radiation.
WARNING
Risk of patient injury
Accessories or other objects can injure the patient if proper precautions are not
followed.
►
Monitor the position of the patient and the position of the eye shields to ensure
that they do not slip off.
►
Do not place any unapproved objects such as blankets, clothing, diapers, or
sterile packs on top of the device. These objects can interfere with proper
cooling of the device and can fall onto the patient. Only approved accessories,
such as the BiliLux light shield curtain, may be placed on top of the device.
►
If the phototherapy light is used with an incubator, do not cover the light with an
incubator cover or any other cover that is not an approved accessory for the
device. Only approved accessories, such as the BiliLux light shield curtain, may
be placed on top of the device.
