Chapter 3 Scanning Codes
3.1 Before
Use
Before the first use of the scanner or after leaving the scanner unused for a long time, be sure to charge the battery in
the scanner. For the charging procedure, see Chapter 10.
3.2 Scanning
Operation
(1) Bring the reading window to a target code and press the trigger switch. The marker beam comes on, indicating the
scan range. Align the center of the marker beam with that of the target code.
(This step is not required in continuous reading modes 1, 2 and auto sensing mode.)
(2) Wait for the indicator LED to turn green, the beeper to sound and the vibrator to operate, indicating a successfully
read.
Note
: The effective scan range is less than the marker beam range. The scan range is approx. 2.4" (6 cm) wide by 1.6" (4
cm) high when the scan distance is approx. 3.9" (10 cm).
Note
: The marker beam should be used merely as a guide. It does not assure that a code within the marker beam range can
be read.
Note
: Having more than one code within the field of view either causes the read to fail or produces multiple input.
Note
: The scanner can read codes omnidirectionally as long as a target code plus its margins are well within the field of
view.
Note
: If the scanner fails to read due to specular effects or other factors, change the scan angle of the reading window or
the distance from the codes, and repeat the process. (Specular effects occur when the reflection of the light from the label
surface is too strong, such as when the reflecting surface is polished or covered with vinyl.)
Scanning mode
Regular read mode
Successful completion of read-in produces data transfer.
Data verification mode
The scanner transfers only data that matches a predefined list of acceptable bar codes.
(Refer to Section 7.1 for details.)
