Configuring L2 Multicast Features
Configuring L2 Multicast Features (CLI)
This section provides information about the commands you use to configure
L2 multicast settings on the switch. For more information about the
commands, see the

at support.dell.com/manuals . Because L3 IP multicast
(PIM/IGMP) utilizes a separate forwarding database from L2 multicast, it is
recommended that L3 multicast features, including PIM and IGMP, be
disabled on L2 multicast enabled switches.
Configuring Layer 2 Multicasting
Beginning in Privileged EXEC mode, use the following commands to
configure MAC address table features.
Command Purpose
configure
Enter global configuration mode.
mac address-table static
mac-multicast-address
vlan vlan-id interface
interface-id
Register a MAC-layer Multicast address in the bridge
table.

mac-multicast-address
— MAC multicast address in the
format xxxx.xxxx.xxxx or xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx.

interface-id
— A physical interface or port-channel.
mac address-table
multicast forbidden
address vlan vlan-id
{
mac-multicast-address
| ip-multicast-address }
{add | remove}
interface interface-list
Forbid adding a specific Multicast address to specific ports.

mac-multicast-address
— MAC multicast address in the
format xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.

ip- multicast-address
— IP multicast address.

add
— Adds ports to the group. If no option is specified,
this is the default option.
• remove — Removes ports from the group.
•
interface-list
— Specifies the interface type ( port-
channel
,
gigabitethernet
,
tengigabitethernet
) and
number. Separate nonconsecutive interfaces with a
comma and no spaces; use a hyphen to designate a range
of ports.
exit Exit to Privileged EXEC mode.
