NOTICE: Match the colored strip on the cable with pin 1 on the interface
connector.

Attach the appropriate interface cable to the drive. If you installed a controller
card in step 7, attach the other end of the interface cable to the controller card
rather than the system board.
10. Replace the bezel.
11. Make sure that no cable connections were loosened during the procedure.
Arrange cables so that they will not interfere with replacing the power supply and
computer cover.

2. Rotate the power supply back into place, and replace the computer cover.
13. Reconnect your computer and devices to their electrical outlets, and turn them on.
14. If you installed a drive that requires device drivers, refer to the drive's documen-
tation for driver installation instructions.
15. Verify the correct operation of the drive by running the Dell Diagnostics (refer to
Dell Diagnostics (refer to
“Running the Dell Diagnostics” in Chapter 4).
Upgrading the EIDE Hard-Disk Drive
In addition to the externally accessible drive bays, your computer has one internal bay
for a 1-inch–high hard-disk drive. This bay is occupied with your Dell-installed
with your Dell-installed EIDE
hard-disk drive. Use the procedures in this section to upgrade your hard-disk drive.
Replacing the Hard-Disk Drive
To replace a drive in the hard-disk drive bay, perform the following steps:
1.
Prepare the new drive for installation as described in “Configuring Drives” found
Configuring Drives” found
earlier in this chapter.
2.
Remove the bezel according to the instructions in “Removing and Replacing the
Bezel” found earlier in this chapter.
3.
Rotate the power supply according to the instructions in “Rotating the Power
Supply Away From the System Board” in Chapter 2. While holding the power
supply, stand the computer up.

Remove the existing drive from the bay.

Remove the two screws securing the hard-disk drive to the front of the chassis
(see Figure 3-7). Release the clip that secures the drive to the chassis and rotate
the drive out of the chassis. Disconnect any cables attached to the drive.
