Chapter 6: Service and Maintenance
• Close the fuel supply valve to the heater inlet.
• Open the burner access panel and clean any dirt or debris from the gas control valve.
What You Should Know
Gas pressure entering the gas valve is Inlet Pressure. Gas pressure flowing out of the gas valve is Burner
Manifold pressure.
1. Make sure the inlet and outlet pressures match with the pressures listed on the data plate.
2. If the pressures do not match, adjust the regulator controlling the gas pressure to the heater.
3. If the pressures are correct, but the burner manifold pressure does not match the data plate, check
for a blockage in the orifice.
4. If the orifice is unblocked, replace the gas control.
5. Once the inlet and burner manifold pressures match, close the fuel supply valve to the heater and
allow the remaining gas to burn off.
6. Disconnect the heater from the electrical supply.
7. Remove the gauges and reconnect the hoses.
8. Close both pressure tap screws by turning clockwise and check for gas leaks.
After You Finish
Once the inlet and burner manifold pressures match, close the fuel supply valve.
Checking the valve inlet pressure
1. Turn off the main gas supply.
2. Remove the threaded plug from the tee in front of the gas valve.
3. Using a 1/8” MNPT adapter, connect the hose of a pressure test kit.
NOTE:
Pressure test kit must read up to 15 in. w.c.
4. Turn on the main gas supply.
5. Turn on the heater and once the gas valve is open, read the gas pressure.
6. Compare this pressure to the rated inlet pressure of the heater and adjust the inlet pressure
accordingly.
7. When testing is complete, reinstall the threaded plug into the tee in front of the valve.
