Chapter 5: Startup and Operation
Adjusting the heater output
The throttle valve in the On-Off VariFlame heater can be adjusted to increase or decrease the British ther-
mal units (kBtu) of gas output.
What You Should Know
Depending on the ambient temperature or the age of the animals, you may want to adjust the output. The
goal is to set the output best suited to allow the heater to maintain the setpoint without large fluctuations.
Setting the kBtu correctly will also help heater efficiency. Setting the output to low can cause the heater to
run without reaching the setpoint. Setting the output to high can cause the room temperature to fluctuate
dramatically.
CAUTION
Turn off all power sources before performing any adjustments to equipment. Follow
all safety procedures at all times.
To adjust the heater output:
1. Open the heater door.
2. Turn the lever located on the throttle valve to the desired kBtu output setting.
3. Close the heater door.
