RAID 1 mirrors the data stored in one hard drive to another. RAID 1 can only be
performed with two hard drives. If there are more than two hard drives, RAID (0+1) will
be performed automatically.
Mirroring refers to the replication of data on two or more drives. Each drive contains a
mirror image of the data on the other drive. Virtual disk space equals to half of the
combined capacity of the installed disks although mirroring causes operational
overhead resulting in lower performance for write operations it does provide the highest
data reliability among RAID Level 0 to 5 with very high performance for read intensive
operations.
