7.19 Using Direct Inward System Access (DISA)
This feature allows you to call into the DXP digital communications
system from an external telephone. You can call directly to intercom
extensions and talk to the intercom parties or, if the system includes a
voice mail option, leave messages for them if they are not available.
When you call the DISA telephone number and dial your authorization
code, the system treats your call as it would treat one coming from a
system telephone and permits you to use many of the same features that
you can use when you are calling from your assigned station.
(Authorization codes are associated with personal or group intercom
numbers and are assigned to you by your installer when he or she
programs the system.) If you use your DISA access to make a call
through the system and out on an outside line, the system applies all the
toll restriction and automatic route selection to the call that the installer
has programmed for the line that you are using. If you dial an incorrect
authorization code, or the system is busy with other DISA calls, you will
either hear an error tone, or the system will automatically route your call
to one of the following areas (as determined by your system installer):
—
a designated station where you can talk to the system
attendant,
—
a digital voice announce that will prompt you to take
additional action,
—
a proprietary voice mail station where you will be prompted
to leave a message.
The system allows you three tries at dialing your authorization code
before it routes your call as detailed above.
Some systems provide voice prompts to DISA callers and other systems
do not. If you encounter voice prompts when you call on the DISA line,
follow the prompt directions to complete your call.
Further, some systems with voice prompt enhancement, provide a
one-digit menu that prompts you to dial a single digit to reach available
departments, use system features, or obtain operator assistance.
NOTE: DISA is not recommended for use on loop start lines without
disconnect supervision. While DISA will function, Comdial
will not be liable for its performance under any condition
where disconnect supervision is not provided.
