6.13 Black (offset) level referencing
The camera gain values directly influence the black offset.
Perform white balancing before starting the black referencing.
If the camera gain values were changed, perform black referencing before operating
the 3DPIXA camera.
White balancing was performed (see chapter 6.12, p. 68).
Triggered frame scan is set to
Free running
.
The encoder is disabled.
For the 3DPIXA dual camera:
– the trigger parameters has to be set only for the master camera,
– the black (offset) level referencing has to be performed for the master camera and the
slave camera.
1. Open the
Encoder setup
page (see Fig. 29, p. 58) by selecting the corresponding toolbar
icon.
2. Make sure that the encoder is disabled (
no
checkmark in the
Enable encoder
box).
3. Open the
Reference generation wizard
by selecting the appropriate toolbar icon.
4. Select type of reference 1:
Black (offset) level reference
.
5. Select image source 2:
Create reference internally
.
6. Select the
Next
button.
7. Remove the checkmark from the
Perform white balancing
box.
For the 3DPIXA camera, it is
not
recommended to perform white balancing using the
Reference generation wizard
.
8. Select the
Next
button.
9. Select the data set in which the offset reference shall be generated and stored.
10. Cover the lens so that the sensor is completely dark.
11. Select the
Next
button.
12. Wait until
Reference generation successful!
is displayed in the wizard window.

13. Select the
Next
button.
The camera settings are restored.
14. In the
Camera Settings
select
Reference usage
in the
Camera parameter
folder.
15. Make sure that in the
Black reference data set field
the correct data set is selected.
16. Set the checkmark in the
Activate black level correction
box.
At least a few pixels should be larger than 0 (e.g. 1 or 2) in the black image with activated
black level correction and covered lens. Otherwise (if all pixels are 0), the image is over-
compensated and black referencing must be repeated.
17. Save the settings in the non-volatile memory of the camera.
