Installing the 3D scanner system
5.1
Required and optional components
Prior to installing the 3D scanner system ensure that the corresponding hardware and
software components are available.
5.1.1
Hardware components
Component
Function/Requirements
Required
3DPIXA camera See chapter 4, p. 20
Moving stage/
conveyer
The moving stage must be of high quality in order to achieve high
accurate 3D measurement results. The moving stage must have a
stable and non-vibrating movement. Vibrating moving stages influence
the measurement results.
Lifting table
A fine scale lifting table might be needed if objects with different
heights are measured. With the lifting table the object can be placed
at the best focus plane of the camera. A lifting table is especially
recommended, e.g., for a 3D demonstration scanner system, and in
cases in which it is difficult to lift up and down the 3DPIXA camera.

Frame
grabber(s)
Depending on the required scanning speed, the 3DPIXA cameras can
be operated in base or medium mode. Some 3DPIXA dual cameras
can also be operated in full mode (see chapter 2.3, p. 11).
3DPIXA compact camera:
– 1 medium frame grabber
or
– 1 base frame grabber
3DPIXA dual camera:
– 2 medium frame grabbers
or
– 1 dual base frame grabber
or
– 2 base frame grabbers
For more information on compatible frame grabbers, refer to
chapter 2.6.1, p. 15.
Line scan
illumination
Chromasens manufactures its own high quality line scan illumination
“Corona II” with extremely bright and homogeneous light. Especially
the Chromasens tube light illumination is highly suitable for 3DPIXA
applications as it reduces shadows on objects with its uniform light
distribution. Contact Chromasens for further information on line scan
illumination varieties.
