Restrictions on image pre-processing
Pre-processing in camera
Some of the functionalities that are, e.g., available for standard allPIXA cameras, are not
available for 3DPIXA cameras. Some of the functions are available via the CS-3D-API (e.g.
ROI) while others are making no sense for that specific camera type.
By selecting the compatible 3DPIXA camera in the CST, the unusable functions are greyed
out. In this case the function cannot be set or changed.
General pre-process before 3D calculation
There could be applications where, e.g., a background segmentation could be helpful for the
3D data calculation. In this regard, please refer to our partner portal at
http://www.chromasens.de/user (Downloads > Whitepapers) or contact our support.
4.3
Principle functionality of a line scan sensor
The 3DPIXA camera is equipped with trilinear CCD line scan sensors, each with 3 spatially
separated lines. The lines are sensitive to the colors red, green and blue (RGB). In this way,
each image point delivers 3-color information with 3 x 8 bit.
The square-
shaped sensor pixels have sides of 10 μm length. The distance between the color
sensor lines is 40 μm.

Sensor pixels of a line scan sensor
As a result of the object movement, an object point successively passes the 3 sensor lines.
The 3DPIXA camera compensates the spatial separation of the sensor lines by taking into
account the movement speed of the object. The 3 color channels are then combined into a
complete color image. Continual scanning provides a color image which can theoretically be
infinitely long.
