IMPORTANT: If v eh icle is equipped with a
S p icer clutch, be su r e to, fir s t, adjust the clutch
internally as d escrib ed in "Internal Clutch Adjust
ment" in the 1970 Heavy Duty Truck S ervice
Manual ST 135-70, pages 7 -4 3 —7 -4 5 . A fter the
internal clutch adjustm ent has been perform ed,
adjust the extern al linkage as follow s:
1. B lock clutch pedal in fully engaged position
(against stop bumper) and rotate clutch id ler lev er
clock w ise until le v e r contacts STOP.
NOTE: A ll m odels a re not equipped with a
STOP PIN as shown. Some m odels are equipped
with a STOP BRACKET mounted on fram e rail and
oth ers the STOP is the fram e r a il its e lf. R efer to
fig u res 10 and 11.
2. Lengthen clutch rod by two turns, rotate
upper adjusting nut until it contacts clutch rod.
Tighten upper lock nut against upper adjusting nut.
3. D isconnect clutch le v e r return spring from
r e le a s e le v e r .
NOTE: C learance "A" equals:
1 /2 -in c h (a ll m od els, excep t HH, JH90 with
Sp icer Clutch).
.4 5 -in ch (HH, JH with Spicer clutch).
4. L oosen low er lock nut. Adjust position of
lo w er adjusting nut to provide clea ra n ce "A” b e
tween wedge and adjusting nut, with r e le a s e lev er
held rearw ard until the r e le a s e bearing is just
contacting the r e le a s e fin g ers (Lipe Clutch) or
until the r e le a s e yoke contacts the r e le a s e bearing
(Spicer).
5. Tighten low er lock nut against low er ad
justing nut and connect clutch le v e r return spring.
R em ove block from clutch pedal and check o p er
ation of clutch linkage.
