(A) should be in full throttle position . If adjustm ent
is n e c e ssa r y , adjust length of rod assem b ly (B)
until a ccele ra to r pedal contacts stop bolt (C) with
carburetor throttle le v e r in full throttle p osition.
6. Install gauge (J-23739) a s shown in figure
3. Note the gauge is in stalled on manual s e le c to r
nut.
7. Hold TV le v e r (E) full counterclockw ise
against the tra n sm issio n internal stop. Align the
"STOP" line on gauge with forward edge of TV
le v e r . If n e c e ssa r y , reposition gauge on manual
se le c to r nut to obtain alignm ent. U se a m irror if
unable to view directly.
8. Move TV le v e r fu ll clock w ise as shown in
figu re 6. TV le v e r (E) should be aligned with "LONG
STROKE" lin e on gauge. T his step is a check to be
su re no internal condition e x ists in tra n sm issio n
that would prevent full m ovem ent of the TV le v e r .
C orrect any internal tra n sm issio n condition, if
n e c e ssa r y , b efore proceeding.
9. With engine "OFF" and a cc e le ra to r pedal
at "IDLE" position , align TV lev e r (E) w ith "IDLE"
lin e on gauge as shown in figure 5.
10. With a cc e le ra to r linkage at "IDLE” p o s i
tion , have a ssista n t position slotted c le v is (K) so
upper portion of slo t contacts c le v is pin (M). S e
cu re c le v is (K) to c le v is pin (M). Tighten nut (J)
against c le v is (K). R echeck TV le v e r (E) to be
su re it is aligned with "IDLE " lin e on gauge (fig. 5).
11. Have a ssista n t d ep ress a ccelera to r pedal
to full th rottle. R eferring to figu re 6, TV le v e r
should be aligned with "LONG STROKE" lin e on
gauge.
NOTE: Any under- or o v e r -tr a v el in Step 11
in d icates faulty or im proper linkage com ponents.
B e su r e cable clam ps are se c u r e at both ends of
cab le.
12. R em ove gauge (J-23739) from tra n sm is
sion and connect manual range s e le c to r linkage at
tra n sm issio n .
13. U sing a tachom eter to accurately check
engine rpm, with se le c to r le v e r in "N" (neutral)
rech eck engine idle sp eed (500 rpm ). Road te st
or dynam om eter te st veh icle to check for fu ll load
upshift (5th to 6th). Upshift should occur at approx
im ately 50 rpm below the engine governed speed.
If u p shifts do not occur at sp ecified rpm adjust as
follow s:
a. To r a ise sh ift point shorten TV cab le (H)
by repositioning c le v is (G) a s required on cable
(H). Tighten nut against shoulder of c le v is .
b. To low er shift point, lengthen shift cable
(H) in the sam e manner as the preceding step .
