CMT-330 Three Knife Trimmer
4-2
4. Routine Tasks
4.1 Book Underside Air Lift
The book underside air lift uses a blast of air to
reduce scratching on the bottom cover as the
books moves through the machine. The amount
of lift may require adjustment depending on the
thickness of books being trimmed.
To adjust:
1. Locate the book underside air lift adjust-
ment knob as shown in Figure 4-1 be-
low.

2. Locate the red locking ring and unlock it
by pulling it toward you (away from the
machine).
3. To increase the amount of lift, such as
for thicker books, adjust the valve coun-
ter-clockwise.
4. To decrease the amount of lift, such as
for thinner books, adjust the valve clock-
wise.
5. When finished adjusting, push the lock-
ing ring back in to lock it in place.
4.2 Waste Bins
The three waste bins may require emptying in
the middle of a shift, but it is a good idea to do it
before a shift begins. When the waste bins are
near capacity during a job run, the CMT-330
continues cutting. The status indicator light on
top of the machine blinks slowly, and the screen
displays a message stating that the waste bins
are full.
Use the following procedure to empty waste
bins.
1. If running, stop the machine's cutting
mode by pressing the red stop button on
the console shown in Figure 4-2. To pre-
serve the status of each book in the job,
press the stop button after the gripper
transport releases a trimmed book, but
before it clamps the next untrimmed
book. If the untrimmed book is clamped
by the gripper transport and not
trimmed, it will be ejected onto the Exit
Conveyor when the machine is re-
started. The book can be manually
placed onto the In-feed conveyor to be
trimmed later.

2. Wheel a cart to any of the three waste
bin locations. One is located at both the
rear, right-hand and left hand sides of
the machine. The remaining waste bin
is located at the back of the machine.
Figure 4-3 and Figure 4-4 show the
waste bin locations.
