Monitoring and Managing Your SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27
Modifying The Number Of Statistic Samples Saved
The number of buckets (snapshots) of Ethernet statistics saved is set via
an SNMP command. The number may be modiÞed at any time. When the
number of buckets reaches the value set, the saved statistics in the oldest
bucket associated with this History Control Group entry are replaced by
the values of the current statistics. If the number of buckets changes to a
number that is less than what is currently stored, enough of the oldest
buckets are deleted, and any allocated memory is freed. If the number of
buckets changes to a number greater than the current value, the number
of entries is allowed to grow (i.e. more memory is allocated).
Each entry of the History Control Group requires statistics to be collected
at a given interval (HistoryControlTable.Interval). The needed timers
must now be setup. Also, memory must be allocated for each needed
entry of the Ethernet History Group. The value of
HistoryControlTable.BucketsRequested must be checked and the code
should attempt to allocate this number of Ethernet History Group entries.
If this amount of memory cannot be allocated the
HistoryControl.BucketsGranted must be updated to reßect the correct
value.
4.4 SMARTSTACK ETHERNET ELS10-27 STATISTICS
The SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27 gathers statistics that can help you
build a comprehensive proÞle of the network trafÞc ßow between each
Local Area Network (LAN) you are connecting, as well as the network
trafÞc ßow between each Ethernet port on the SmartSTACK Ethernet
ELS10-27.
SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27 statistics are divided into four groups:
¥ System statistics
¥ Ethernet port statistics
¥ TrafÞc analysis statistics
¥ SNMP statistics
You can use this information to analyze your overall network
performance and to make conÞguration changes as necessary. For
example, Ethernet port statistics can help you identify network devices
that require high bandwidth, and therefore should be connected through
